Arsenal Transfer News: Swap Deal Between Nani and Theo Walcott? As Ferguson Shows Interest in Gunners Forward

A swap deal involving clubs in the English Premier League is a rare phenomenon, unlike the ones that frequently happen in the Serie A.

However, if reports are to be believed, a swap deal between Arsenal and Manchester United could very well be on the horizon.

According to the Daily Mail, Sir Alex Ferguson has shown interest in signing contract rebel Theo Walcott in January. The Arsenal forward is yet to agree on a new deal, with his current agreement set to expire at the end of the season.

That has led to many believing Walcott will indeed leave the club, as Arsenal were thrown into further turmoil following their embarrassing defeat to Bradford City in the quarterfinals of the Capital  One Cup.

It is understood, the 23-year-old is still keen to sign a new contract with Arsenal, but if he were forced to make a move he would prefer United.

Robin Van Persie seems to be having the time of his life at Old Trafford, following his controversial move to United, and it is believed, Walcott's first option will be United, although, unlike his former captain, he will not force himself out.

Nani was linked in the British press with a move to Arsenal, following his own contract standoff. The Portuguese international's contract expires in 2014, and the winger has reportedly been disillusioned with life at United.

Wenger needs to buy new players in the January transfer window, there is no doubt about that. The loss to Bradford highlighted the chinks in the Gunners' armour, and if it is not corrected soon, Arsenal's season might just go from bad to worse.

If a swap deal were agreed upon, Arsenal would have to let go of Walcott and stump up a considerable amount, seeing as Nani still has 18 months remaining on his deal. However, with Wenger given a considerable transfer budget when the window opens in the New Year, the money should not be too much of a problem, if he chooses to move ahead with the transfer.

Chances are Nani will stay with United until the end of the season, with Walcott coming to an agreement with Arsenal. However, the possibility of an outrageous swap deal like the one between Nani and Walcott involving Arsenal and United, is what makes the transfer window so exciting!
