Bayern Munich will look to go a mammoth 14 points clear of their nearest opponents, with a victory over Borussia Monchengladbach at the Allianz Arena Friday.
Bayern are already in cruise control in the Bundesliga on 41 points from 16 matches, 11 points ahead of Bayer Leverkusen and 14 clear of champions Borussia Dortmund.
With the German giants the only title contending team playing on Friday, they could possible go 14 ahead of Leverkusen and 17 clear of Dortmund.
Monchengladbach are currently in eighth, on 24 points from 16 games, and they will try to do a favor to the likes of Dortmund and Leverkusen by picking up an improbable win over Bayern.
Jupp Heynckes won the German league four times as a player with Monchengladbach, and later went on to coach them; however, the Bayern Munich coach said sentiments will not play a part in the game on Friday.
"I still have a very good, friendly contact with them, but we want to win tomorrow's (Friday's) game all the same," he said. "We want a positive end to the year.
"It (Bayern vs Gladbach) was a classic in the past, but now Gladbach are no longer on a level with us.
"For me it is (still a classic), but otherwise it is a game like any other."
Gladbach will be wary of the form of Mario Gomez who has looked better and better with every passing game. Gomez was out for a considerable amount of time, before making a comeback into the team a couple of weeks back.
The striker added to his already growing goal tally with a typically clinical finish in the win over Augsburg last weekend, and captain Philipp Lahm is happy to see his club and country teammate back to his best.
"The goal (against Augsburg) illustrated all his strengths," Lahm said. "He played the lay-off, ran deep, collected a great return pass from Franck (Ribery), and then produced a sensational finish.
"We have three great strikers, but that's crucial, because we're still in three competitions."
Gomez himself said he was happy with the way his comeback has taken shape, despite starting on the bench more than he is used to, owing to the form of Mario Mandzukic. "I'm delighted," he told the club's official website. "My aim is always to score when I'm called upon. I'm enjoying it, and I'll always be there when the coach needs me."
