Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be keen to see his side continue the momentum picked up from the 5-2 win at Reading Monday as the Gunners travel to a Wigan side desperately in search of points.

Arsenal moved up to fifth in the English Premier League table, and are only two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham. A win will take the Gunners to the top-four, even if it might be only for a few hours.

Wigan, on the other hand are struggling in 18th, having seen themselves slip into the relegation zone on the back of a poor run of form.

Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen admitted his side had a lot to prove after the humiliating defeat to Bradford in the Capital One Cup, and was glad to see the team pull off an impressive win against Reading.

"We had a lot to prove," Vermaelen said. "A lot of people questioned us and maybe that's normal but we wanted to perform and we think we did that.

"If you play for a team like Arsenal, there are always going to be people outside who are going to question the manager and the team.

"The thing is, you have to stay united and work hard on the training pitch because we are the only ones who know what's going on in the team. What people say outside is just part of the job.

"The team was disappointed because of course you want to win the game [against Bradford] but the thing is we were focused straight away again and we know in England we have so many games that we can make it up again straight away.

"You can't stand still too long with a defeat like that -- you just learn from it and move on."

Wigan are suffering from some injury problems, with Adrian Lopez ruled out for up to ten weeks after picking up a hamstring tear in the defeat to Norwich last weekend.

"We are waiting on the results of another scan, but Adrian has a tear to his hamstring and it will probably be between six and 10 weeks," Latics manager Roberto Martinez told the Wigan Evening Post. "It's a shame because Adrian has never had a soft-tissue injury before.

"He is a sprinter and he has a real sprinter's muscles - you don't usually see people like him picking up this kind of injury."

Midfielder James McCarthy, who had to be taken off at halftime, however, has only a swollen ankle, and could be available against Arsenal, while defenders Gary Caldwell, Ivan Ramis and Antolin Alcaraz could also make their returns from injuries.

Arsenal have no new injury worries, meaning only Andre Santos and Abou Diaby are unavailable.
