Two teams in desperate need of points will lock horns in the English Premier League on Boxing Day, with Fulham looking to put behind them a woeful run while Southampton will be keen to get back to winning ways to move them away from relegation trouble.

Fulham have only won one of their last ten games, a run which has seen them plummet to 13th place, on 20 points from 18 matches.

Southampton, meanwhile, after putting together a decent run, crashed to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Sunderland Saturday, which sees them in 17th on 15 points, the same as Wigan, who are third bottom.

"We've had one win in the last 10 and that is not good enough," Fulham manager Martin Jol said ahead of their game against the Saints at Craven Cottage. "We have to come up with something and be more organised, play better football and, hopefully, we will get some players back who can do that.

"If every player is on the board then I don't think there is a big problem but we've struggled a bit with injuries in the first half of the season. We would like to have somebody, for example, for Bryan (Ruiz) if he is not there.

"We tried that with (Dimitar) Berbatov and he was good sometimes but sometimes it worked against us because you need Berbatov up front.

"Of course, we are disappointed and the only thing we can do is keep the spirit up, try to be positive and tell the players that they are capable of winning games. We know that other players like Bryan and (Mamadou) Diarra are important to us but, even when they are not there, we should pick up results."

Jol rated the chances of Ruiz taking part against Southampton as 50-50, while Diarra is a major doubt, with Damien Duff and Mladen Petric ruled out. Steve Sidwell, though, returns after serving a one-game suspension.

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins does not have any new injury worries, but Adam Lallana is again expected to miss out due to injury.

"All of the games are going to be pressurised so what we've got to make sure we do is regroup and get ourselves ready for Fulham," Adkins said.

"They're good. They play a 4-4-1-1 very well with Berbatov between the lines. They're well organised defensively and as a unit.

"It's similar to what we go and do so they'll be a team that is difficult to break down, but one we believe that we can score against."
