Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Nani on His Way to the Emirates ... Or Could it Be Holtby?

Arsenal are looking to bring in Manchester United winger Nani to the Emirates in the January transfer window as Arsene Wenger goes into overdrive to strengthen his team ahead of a vital five months for the club.

Wenger admitted he would be looking to bring in players in January, and according to various sources in the British media, the Arsenal manager has zeroed in on Nani.

The Portuguese winger's future at Old Trafford has been uncertain for quite a while now, after talks over a new contract broke down between the two parties.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who has an abundance of attacking talent at his disposal, has also reportedly gotten frustrated with the winger's performances, leading to suggestions the Scot would be ready to let him go, if they receive a good offer.

Nani nearly signed for Zenit St. Petersburg in the summer, but the move broke down over the player's wage demands after a fee had reportedly been agreed upon.

However, reports had earlier suggested Arsenal were seriously considering making a move, and the London club are now ready to step up that interest. Arsenal are looking to use the Robin Van Persie sale as leverage in a bid to get Nani for a reasonable sum.

United want £20 million ($32 million) for the 26-year-old, but Arsenal are looking to bring the asking fee down to around £12-15 million ($19-24 million).

Another player that might be available for the Gunners in January is long-term target Lewis Holtby, who has reportedly turned down a new deal with Schalke.

Holtby's current contract with the German club expires at the end of the season, and Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal have been linked with a move for the German playmaker in the past.

While it looks like Liverpool might be the favorites to land the talented 22-year-old, if Arsenal were to make a move, Holtby is likely to prefer a move to North London, having previously expressed his admiration for the Gunners.

Arsenal need reinforcements; there is little argument over that. The likes of Nani, Holtby or even a David Villa, who Wenger refused to rule out a move for, will be the perfect additions to a squad that needs a little bit of strengthening to make that final push.
