Former favorite Xabi Alonso has alerted Liverpool by admitting he would be open to a move back to the English Premier League, with contract talks stalling at Real Madrid.
Alonso enjoyed a successful time at Anfield with Liverpool, winning the Champions League title, while also becoming a fans' favorite.
The 31-year-old currently has only 18 months remaining on his contract with Real, and although negotiations have been going on over a new contract since November, there has been no progress made.
Alonso has always spoken about his willingness to return to Liverpool and that has become a real possibility with Real in turmoil behind the scenes.
The Spanish international, along with Steven Gerrard formed one of the best midfield partnerships in the Premier League, and he admitted he would be open to a return.
"I have not decided on my future," Alonso was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror. "I will only stay at Real Madrid if I can offer the same level on the pitch as I can now and we will see what happens in the next few months.
"There is always a chance I could go back to the Premier League as I always enjoyed good times there."
Meanwhile, Liverpool assistant manager Colin Pascoe revealed Jose Enrique could be set for a spell on the sidelines after tearing his hamstring in the 3-0 win over Queens Park Rangers Sunday.
"Unfortunately it looks like he's got a tear in his hamstring," Pascoe said.
"He was terrific today, absolutely superb, and the way he's been performing these last couple of months has been a joy to watch.
"It's a shame, and hopefully he's not out for too long."
Pascoe was the man in charge on the touchline, after Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was ruled out due to a virus, and his right-hand man revealed the extent of the illness.
"This (Sunday) morning, he (Rodgers) phoned me. I wasn't feeling very well myself, but he was worse than me," Pascoe added
"He didn't look so good, he was very, very white. We were in the hotel.
"All the preparation had been done for the match. Brendan picked the team. The presentations to the players were all set, I just did the presentations today. The driver had to take him back home.
"He wasn't in touch during the game -- he's that bad.
"The way the medical team and the doctors isolated the players and the staff, they've been fantastic. Hopefully it's nipped in the bud and not too many players or staff will be affected by it."
