Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Quartet Set to Leave in January as Arsenal Prepare Space for New Signings

Four Arsenal players could be on their way out of the Emirates in January, with Andrey Arshavin, Marouane Chamakh, Sebastien Squilacci and Johan Djourou closing in on moves.

Arsenal have been hamstrung by players' wages for quite a while now, with several of the unwanted stars on high salaries, which in turn has shackled the club from making too many new signings.

The highest earner Arshavin could be on his way to PSV Eindhoven, according to reports in the Dutch press. Arshavin earns around £90,000 a week ($146,000), and the Gunners are keen to offload the veteran.

Arshavin has reportedly rejected a move to Reading, but is considering joining PSV, who is coached by former Russia coach Dick Advocaat. Arshavin is familiar with the Dutch club's manager's style, having previously played under him for Russia, and will have no problems settling in.

Another high earner Chamakh could be on his way back to France, with Lille now showing a keen interest in the forward.

Chamakh is also wanted by Fiorentina, Bordeaux and West Ham, with, again, the only thing stopping a move to any of these clubs being the high wages.

Djourou has reportedly agreed an initial loan move to German club Hannover, with a view to a permanent deal in the summer. Widespread reports suggest a deal has already been made, with Hannover admitting their interest in the player.

"I can confirm the name," Hannover president Martin Kind said. "He is on our list. There have been talks."

Fellow central defender, who has struggled to adapt to the pace of the English Premier League since joining Arsenal, Squilacci is set to move back to France.

"With Koscielny, Mertesaker, Vermaelen and Djourou, competition is fierce," Squilacci told vermatin.com. "I recently played in the Champions League in Greece.

"I made five appearances for the reserve and I always train seriously.

"My relationship is good with Arsene Wenger and I remain as professional as possible.

"I will be out of contract at the end of the season. As it stands, I will leave. Perhaps during the January transfer window or else I will wait for the month of June.

"Marseille, Nice, Monaco, Bastia or Ajaccio are clubs that speak to me. I am 32 years old. I still have two or three good seasons left.

"On the French Riviera or elsewhere. I will choose depending on the opportunities that arise."

The four players' departures will open up considerable space for Wenger to bring in new faces, with Adrian Lopez and Luke Shaw expected to sign imminently.
