Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid is on the verge of signing a new deal with the Kansas City Chiefs according to league sources.
With minor details still needing to be discussed, one source involved with talks said "the major issues have been discussed and agreed upon," according to ESPN.com.
The two sides met and discussed details at an airport in the Philadelphia area on Wednesday. Reid had been scheduled to fly to Arizona to meet with Cardinals officials about the head coaching job, but talks progressed with the Chiefs to the point that the Cardinals are seemingly out of the picture.
The expectation by the end of the day is that the deal will be wrapped up and finalized.
Once the deal is complete, the future of general manager Scott Pioli seems to be up in the air. Reid is expected to want to bring in his own personnel. Reid worked in Philadelphia with former Browns general manager Tom Heckert, who is expected to be one candidate. Reid also is best friends with Packers director of football operations John Dorsey, who has interviewed for other general managers in the past.
