NFL Coaching Rumors: Bills Hire Doug Marrone As New Head Coach

Jan 07, 2013 02:29 PM EST

The Buffalo Bills have agreed to terms and have hired Doug Marrone for four-years as their new coach Monday, according to ESPN.com.

"Today I am experiencing another dream come true," he said, according to the team's Twitter account.

"I'm dying to go to work. We have a lot of work to do," he said.

Marrone, was a former offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints from 2006 to 2008 before becoming Syracuse's head coach in 2009. His hiring comes after going 25-25 in four seasons at Syracuse and a week after Chan Gailey was fired following three consecutive losing seasons.

"#OrangeNation wishes head coach Doug Marrone all the best in NFL with the Bills. Thanks for what you've done at the 'Cuse," the school posted on its Twitter account.

Marrone becomes the Bills fifth head coach in 12 years, as the team's 13-season playoff drought becomes the NFL's longest active streak, having not had a winning season since their 9-7 season in 2004.

With his offensive mind, Marrone's first challenge win Buffalo will be addressing the team's need at the quarterback position, which has been lacking since Hall of Famer Jim Kelly retired in 1996.

Since then the team has gone through nine quarterbacks , which includes the uncertain future of current quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
