Manchester United are closely monitoring Rayo Vallecano forward Leo Baptistao, who has been a revelation in La Liga this season.
Sir Alex Ferguson's brother, Martin Ferguson, a scout for United, was spotted watching Baptistao play for Rayo in their 3-1 win over Getafe at the weekend, according to AS.
Baptistao is one of the most highly-regarded young players in La Liga, and the 20-year-old has been a standout for Rayo this season.
While United are already flush with strikers, according to the Spanish newspaper, Baptistao would come at a measly €2 million (£1.6 million, $2.5 million).
United were heavily linked with a summer move for Robert Lewandowski, which was quickly shot down by Ferguson.
While, United still have four quality strikers in Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck, bringing in Baptistao for a bargain might not be such a bad idea.
Liverpool game bigger than Manchester City
Paul Scholes has no doubts about the fact that Manchester United vs Liverpool trumps the Manchester Derby. United are set to face Liverpool in the English Premier League Sunday, and Scholes believes the rivalry is still the best.
"I think it was the top one for quite some while," he told Inside United.
"Liverpool probably haven't done as well as they'd have liked over the last few years - and they'd probably admit that. But it's definitely still right up there, it'll always be right up there.
"Whether Manchester City have overtaken Liverpool now (as United's biggest rivals), I don't know; it'll probably take years for City to create what Liverpool have done.
"Liverpool historically are our biggest rivals, they're always the biggest games and the best atmospheres. But I'm sure City will run them close."
Scholes, who is expected to retire at the end of the season, said he was glad to return to playing after initially calling it a day in 2011. "I just wanted to come back playing, and I'm glad I did," Scholes added. "At the time there were a lot of injuries and I thought maybe I could help, so I tried to.
"The second half of last season I played quite often. Unfortunately we just fell short of winning the league; that was disappointing, but I'm glad I came back."
