At 5' 7" and 182 pounds, you would expect Nico Marley, grandson of the legendary Bob Marley, to be headed into the music business. Share the stage with guys his height like Bruno Mars, but no, this Marley is hitting the college football fields with a vengeance as he is expected to play for Tulane in the coming year.
Nico, is a linebacker who led his team in tackling for three seasons as a member of the Cypress Bay High located in Weston, Florida.
"People can talk about his size, this and that, but he's a special, special player. I've never seen someone manhandle him. He takes people on, is always productive, always around the ball. He's thick. He's strong. He's a bull. He has that Marley spirit, just something so strong that gets us all going," said coach Mark Guandolo.
Getting people going seems to be a Marley thing. Bob, who came up in the 60's and gave birth to the rhythm of reggae was a poetic soldier who produced change with his music all around the world.
The fact that Nico wasn't accepted to the University of Miami or other Division I schools didn't prevent him from continuing his dream in football.
Where does football come from in the Marley family tree. Well Bob was a big soccer fan, so they get their competitive edge from their, but Nico's father, Rahon Marley was a star when he played for the University of Miami.
We'll have to keep an eye on this kid Nico as the odds seem to be against him in size. However, look for his determination and the Marley drive flowing through his veins to get him far into his career.
