La Liga Results: Lionel Messi and Barcelona Set New Points Record as Falcao Helps Atletico to Easy Win

Barcelona continued to make the game of soccer look ridiculously easy, with another victory in La Liga that took them to a record haul of 55 points out of a possible 57 after 19 games.

The Barca dream team scored a 3-1 victory over Malaga to  post the mark, with Lionel Messi again getting on the scoresheet, although he will be disappointed to score just a single goal, rather than what seems to be his customary minimum of two.

Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara added the other two for Barca, with Diego Buonanotte netting the consolation goal for Malaga late on.

The three points kept Barcelona 11 points ahead of their nearest rivals Atletico Madrid, who won 2-0 against Real Zaragoza, thanks to goals from Tiago and Radamel Falcao.

Barca are now a massive 18 points ahead of Real Madrid, after Jose Mourinho's men were held to a goalless draw at Osasuna.

"We're very pleased with how we've done in the first half of La Liga," Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova said. "It's fantastic that we've won 10 games away from home.

"The players are very good. We're coming off of four successful years and it's a good thing that they know the concepts of the system. Besides, the players are eager to continue winning.

"We are not invincible. Everything we've achieved up until now is thanks to the effort we've put in and our eagerness to win. The day we don't play at a high level is the day we lose. Therefore, it's about maintaining our form."

Messi was the superhero for Barca yet again, opening the scoring in the first half, before setting up Fabregas and Thiago for their goals.

"The individual talent that each player brings to the table helps the team, and with hard work and sacrifice we get the desired results," Andres Iniesta said.

"Sooner or later it (the first defeat of the season) will come, (but) we'll try to extend our undefeated streak as long as we can.

"We feel great and our first half of the season was nearly impeccable, but these kinds of numbers only mean something at the end of the season."

Earlier, Real Madrid threw away any slim chance they had of mounting a comeback in the second half of the season, by playing out a 0-0 draw with Osasuna, in a game which saw Kaka sent off.

The red card was the third straight handed out to a Real player in three games, with the La Liga champions struggling to find their rhythm without Cristiano Ronaldo, who was suspended.

"It isn't easy to create chances here because of the opposition's style of play," Mourinho said. "Without creating much and without having many chances we created enough to score.

"I never talk about the missing players. We have had players injured for a month or two and I've never talked about them. We also have players suspended and I have not used that as an excuse."

Results: Osasuna 0-0 Real Madrid; Espanyol 1-0 Celta Vigo; Real Valladolid 3-1 Mallorca; Valencia 2-0 Sevilla; Real Sociedad 1-1 Deportivo; Real Betis 2-0 Levante; Malaga 1-3 Barcelona; Atletico Madrid 2-0 Real Zaragoza.
