How Many Days Until Pitchers and Catchers? Let the Countdown Begin

Jan 15, 2013 12:43 PM EST

For true baseball fans, the arrival of pitchers and catchers means the world. It means spring training is around the corner and though it doesn't count for the regular season, it means baseball is about to begin. How many days are there until pitchers and catchers report?

The magic number is down to 28 days!

That's less than a month. That's four weeks which equals to 672 hours or 40,320 minutes. Either way you count it down, pitchers and catchers will soon arrive.

Some people might not get the anticipation, but the months from November until February are cold for baseball fans in the north in relation to climate and spirit. It's hard living those months without watching our favorite sluggers or aces on the mound. Football helps relieve the pain, but it's just not the same.

This is a time where fantasy teams are made. Guys get their last looks at up and coming talent, which could help them snatch up sleepers in drafts for very cheap.

Here's a look at how MLB's Twitter page is counting down.

That's Minnesota Twin great and Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven uncovering his jersey number.

In the Dominican Republic, the No. 2 signifies crazy. When they locked you up in "The 28" that means you were at an asylum. Crazy is what baseball fans will get once their players start reporting to camp.

Free Agents in the Market
There are still guys out there looking for new homes or simply an employer who would sign the big checks. Michael Bourn is probably the best offensive player left in the free agent market. Along with Bourn, starter Kyle Lohse is also looking for employment.

This is nothing new for Scot Boras clients, but while fans feel excitement, these guys must be sweating a little bit as they are still seeking for baseball teams.

Many wonder what will happen with Justin Upton as analysts believe he will likely be traded before the beginning of the season. The Atlanta Braves have been heavily rumored for a while now as Upton's choice where he could play alongside his brother B.J. Upton.

For now, the important fact is that it's 28 days until pitchers and catchers report to camp. Start the countdown and mark it on your calendars.
