Chelsea (12-5-4) enter this game in third place with 41 points and, with a win, can gain a necessary three here against first-place Manchester United (55 points) and second-place Manchester City (48) in the league table.
John Terry is set for a return to the Chelsea starting lineup after spending two months on the sidelines with a knee injury, while Demba Ba is likely to keep his place up front ahead of Fernando Torres.
Yossi Benayoun and Oriel Romeu (both knee) are Rafael Benitez's only casualties so Terry's return looks likely to be the only change from the 4-0 win at Stoke, with Torres remaining on the bench.
Meanwhile, Southampton (5-6-10) could be without defender Luke Shaw.
The 17-year-old penned a new deal at St Mary's recently but suffered a gash on the knee in Saturday's win over Aston Villa and is now a doubt for the trip to Stamford Bridge.
Fellow defender Jose Fonte (knee) is still missing and, although he has returned to light training, club captain Adam Lallana (knee) remains absent.
Expected Starting Lineups:
Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Luiz, Cole, Ramires, Lampard, Hazard, Mata, Bertrand, Ba
Southampton: Boruc, Clyne, Yoshida, Hooiveld, Fox, Puncheon, Cork, Schneiderlin, Ramirez, Rodriguez, Lambert
