Luis Suarez Admits to Diving in Premier League Game, But Stands Firm on Handball Goal

Luis Suarez is not exactly the most liked players in the English Premier League at the moment, and the Uruguayan has now courted more controversy by admitting he went down too easily in the English Premier League game against Stoke last year.

Suarez was embroiled in controversy, the latest of many since his arrival from Ajax in 2011, when he handled the ball to help himself to what proved to be the winner against Macclesfield Town in the FA Cup third round.

The Liverpool forward, who has become somewhat of an easy target, fairly or unfairly, has always been accused of diving inside the box looking for soft penalties, and the Uruguayan admitted he went down easily against Stoke earlier this season on Oct. 7.

"I don't listen to all the nonsense some people say about me," Suarez told Fox Sports Argentina. "I'm accused of cheating here. People say I throw myself all the time inside the box.

"Let's see, they said that when we played against Stoke, for instance, and in that case they were right.

"I invented a foul because we were drawing against Stoke and I wanted to win."

Suarez, however, felt he was unnecessarily vilified in the press for his handball goal against Macclesfield.

"Sometimes on the pitch I say to myself, 'What have I done?'" he added. "But the name of Suarez sells papers.

"The other day, for instance, I touched the ball with my hand accidentally, and I was criticised because I kissed my hand (which is his usual goal celebration).

The 25-year-old still feels aggrieved about the eight-match handed to him by the FA for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra, saying the Red Devils had too much clout in the English game.

"When someone says something bad about being a South American, I don't cry, because that happens inside the pitch," Suarez said. "I have my conscience clean.

"But Manchester United controls the media -- they are powerful.

"In England, South American players are treated differently to local players."
