Manchester United are keeping tabs on Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen, while Pescara midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero has admitted he would be open to a move to Old Trafford.
Eriksen has been one of the long-term targets for Sir Alex Ferguson, with the United manager closely watching the Danish international on a number of occasions.
The 20-year-old has been one of the standouts for Ajax in the past couple of seasons, and is only expected to get better.
Manchester United are still in the market for a midfielder, albeit a more defensive minded one than Eriksen. However, Ferguson is a huge admirer of the Ajax player's talents, and the club have not entirely given up on signing Eriksen, according to the Daily Express.
While the possibilities of Eriksen joining United in January are slim, with the midfielder himself expressing his desire to finish the season with Ajax, there is a good chance that the youngster could join at the end of the season.
His agent admitted his client was only concentrating on Ajax, but said anything is possible as long as the window is open.
"Before Ajax's trip to Brazil (for their training camp), Christian's focus was on the big match coming up against Feyenoord and that is what he wants to keep focusing on.
"Christian just wants to concentrate on his football, but you never know what might happen in football."
Meanwhile, another talented youngster being linked with a move to United said of his preference to play in Italy, but did not rule out a move abroad. Pescara's Quintero has shown some good form for his club this season, alerting the big clubs in Italy and United.
The Colombian, who turned 20 on Friday, is most comfortable playing as a deep-lying playmaker, and has thrived for Pescara in that particular position this season.
Quintero said Inter would be his preferred club, but did not rule out signing for United.
"I like Inter," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I prefer the Nerazzurri because they have a lot of South Americans at the club. And I'm happy in Italy.
"Saying that, it is clear that I would not turn down other strong teams because I'm ambitious: Manchester, Milan, Juventus...
"I'll decide with my family and with my agent."
Pescara have reportedly slapped a €10 million (£8.3 million, $13.2 million) price tag on their player, and Quintero admitted he has a long way to go to justify that tag.
"I don't know if I am worth that," he said. "I still need to learn and work hard. I need to improve as a player."
