It's really happening, NHL is finally here and the Rangers and their fans can only expect excitement in 2013 after a great 2012 season. Though Jeremy Lin stole the show in Madison Square Garden, the Rangers helped create a buzz around midtown Manhattan. Many New York analysts were shocked and suddenly the city had its people reminscing about the dominant seasons of the early 90's.
New York was busy and the Rangers were beating teams on a nightly basis.
2011-2012 saw the Rangers finish in first place in the Atlantic division as they took the NHL by storm posting the best record in the Eastern Conference and the second best overall at 51-24.
Unfortunately, they were dispatched from the Stanley Cup Finals by New Jersey Devils after six games. Had they won the series, the Rangers would have found themselves in the championships against the Los Angeles Kings.
This season, the Rangers come with a different look, no changes were made to their jerseys, however. The new look comes after the acquisition of Rick Nash, the NHL's last big player on the market during the offseason.
He came over from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for center Brandon Dubinsky, defenseman prospect Tim Erixon, center Artem Anisimov and a first-round pick was also included in the pack.
What will Nash bring to Broadway?
He's a first-round pick from the 2002 draft and has been in the league since the age of 18. Nash is a scorer who finished 2011-2012 with 30 goals.
It should be an exciting new NHL season at MSG and it all kicks off tomorrow. So take out your hockey gear and wear it tomorrow because the Rangers are back in action.
The home opener is coming soon just hang on and enjoy Saturday's game.
