Both teams are coming off successful season openers and are posting 1-0 records. For the Panthers, it was a 5-1 victory this past Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Senators also left their opponents with one score as they crushed the Winnipeg Jets 4-1.
This is the first of two back-to-back games for the Senators against the Panthers as both teams are set to meet up three days from now on Thursday.
Games are always important, but now every single game is crucial due to the shortened season. Both teams are coming off successful 2011-2012 campaigns, so look for them to continue this trend in this new season.
The Panthers finished first in the Southeast division, barely taking the top spot over a tough Washington Capitals squad. The Panthers went 38-26 last year and racked up 94 points, just two ahead of the Capitals.
As for the Senators, second place was theirs in the Northeast division where they beat out the Buffalo Sabres for a spot in the playoffs. They went 41-31 in 2011-2012.
