NFL Reviewing Brady, Does This Mean Championship Fate Changes in 2013-2014?

Jan 22, 2013 05:16 PM EST

Tom Brady is being reviewed by the NFL after sliding into Ed Reed in Sunday's AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens. Sliding into Reed might be a poor description of the matter, it was more like Brady tried kicking Reed after giving himself following a short scramble.

We all know what happened to the New England Patriots when they were reviewed for spying on opponents' practices.

Back in 2007, the Patriots were charged with spying on New York Jets' coaches hand signals. Bill Belichick was fined half a million dollars, while the Patriots took hit for $250,000. In addition to the monetary punishment, the Patriots were forced to give up their first-round draft pick.

Ironically, that season the Patriots went perfect during the regular season and won 17 straight games. Their luck, however, ran out against the miracle New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII.

Some immediately call it a curse. The Patriots, who were once super successful at the start of the 2000's, becoming a franchise after winning three Super Bowls in four years, suddenly couldn't make the championship or win once they made it.

They could blame Manning for their troubles as he pulled out another late-game performance that burned the Patriots chances of winning Super Bowl XLVI.

Fast forward to 2012 and here's the play that has the NFL all riled up. Couldn't find the actual clip, sorry for the poor narrator.

Let's look at this situation now. The league is going in to review the Patriots. If found guilty, Brady might face a fine since suspension won't make any sense after they were eliminated by the Ravens this past Sunday. Could the league be doing the Patriots a favor and indeed reverse a curse?

The Ravens are a win away from being crowned Super Bowl champs and they are riding off Ray Lewis' possible retirement. Brady doesn't have many years remaining in the league and at age 35, his time might be coming soon.

If found guilty following the league's review, can the Patriots rally back and be once again at the top of the NFL?

They are always a great team during the regular season, but they have yet to put a run together in the playoffs and haven't won a championship in almost a decade.

This might not be a big deal for some people, but for those superstitious fans out there, this could be the beginning of something interesting. Massachusetts already had one curse with the Boston Red Sox, so it's really not that far fetched.

Let's see what happens with this Brady sliding kick situation. Let's see what Commissioner Roger Goodell decides to do.
