Liverpool are still very much looking to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window and are now being linked with CSKA Moscow playmaker Keisuke Honda.
Honda has been on Liverpool's radar for nearly two years now and a move could finally materialize if manager Brendan Rodgers chooses to pursue his interest.
The Japanese international was close to sealing a move to Italian side Lazio in the summer, but the move fell through in the last moment. Honda, however, is still keen to leave CSKA, a club he joined in 2010.
Rodgers is looking for a couple more additions in his attacking department, despite Liverpool strengthening their attacking department after bringing in Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea.
Honda is someone who can play right across the midfield -- as a genuine No. 10, or on either wings.
Versatility is what Rodgers looks for in his players, and Honda fits the bill, while at 26, he is not too old either for the owners to veto a move.
Honda is likely to cost Liverpool somewhere between £10-15 million ($16-24 million), but will add great value to the squad.
Meanwhile, another Liverpool target Philippe Coutinho, who the Reds have reportedly bid for, has expressed his happiness at Inter Milan.
Coutinho was expected to complete a move to Anfield, with Liverpool confident of landing the 20-year-old with a bid of around £9 million ($14 million).
"The Liverpool offer? I'm happy with these offers, because it means I am doing my job well," he told Sky Italia.
"But I think Inter have faith in me and I want to show my value here. I don't feel that I'm on my way out. I hope to stay at Inter.
"The young players, feel the faith of the coach and of the club: me, Juan Jesus, Benassi, Bessa and the others."
Reports suggest Liverpool are still in with a good chance of landing the playmaker, despite Coutinho's assertions that he is happy at Inter.
However, it is unlikely that Rodgers will move for both Honda and Coutinho, meaning the manager might look to sign the Japanese international only if the Coutinho move falls through.
