Los Angeles Lakers Rumors:The Team Won't Consider Firing Mike D'Antoni?

Jan 25, 2013 04:21 PM EST

After a 1-4 start to their season coach Mike Brown was fired by the Los Angeles Lakers for an unexpected poor start. But now at 17-25, could the same happen to current coach Mike D'Antoni?

Since arriving with the Lakers, D'Antoni's up-tempo offense has gotten them a 12-20 record and only 2-10 in the month of January.

Though fans around Lakers Nation are hoping D'Antoni receives the same fate as Brown, they may have to continue and hold their tongue because the Lakers management have come out and said they don't plan on relieving D'Antoni of his coaching duties and won't even "consider firing him."

If they were to fire Mike D'Antoni, the Lakers would owe $25 million in fired coaching salaries, before whatever they paid the guy who would replace D'Antoni.

Still with such a disappointing season their hands, Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak doesn't believe D'Antoni is the blame for their recent struggles.

"Without a doubt, we have utmost confidence in Mike (D'Antoni) as a coach," Kupchak told ESPNLosAngeles.com on Tuesday. "I think if you spoke to him, his vision on Day 1 was dramatically different than it is today. It's the coach's job to adjust and to make changes. Sometimes a player is just not going to fit. Sometimes a coach has to make changes and compromise in the way he's done things and I think that's what Mike is going through right now is just the process."
