Throughout his career Randy Moss has never been shy to speak his mind, and now that he's heading to the Super Bowl, expect him to be talking for a while.
During San Francisco's media day the 49ers receiver was asked if he thought he was the greatest receiver of all-time. And in typical Moss fashion, he jumped at the opportunity to get his opinions on where he stands out there, according to an NFL Network interview.
"Now that I'm older, I do think I'm the greatest receiver to ever do it," Moss said, as was shown by NFL Network. "I don't think numbers stand. Because you can talk about this and this, I think I've had ... this year has been a down year for me statistically. The year before I retired was a down year, and Oakland was a down year. I don'treally live on numbers I really live on impact and what you're able to do on that field. So I really do think I'm the greatest receiver to ever play this game."
There's no question he's on of the best to have ever played his position. His 156 receiving touchdowns are second only ro Jerry Rice's 156 , and his 15,292 yards are third behind Rices' 22,895 and Terrell Owens' 15,934.
Moss' bold statement obviously sparked a debate with the folks of NFL Network.
Cowboys Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin tried stammering out an answer before just pointing out the obvious.
"Bar none, nobody's having a conversation - it's Jerry Rice, period," Irvin said.
Moss signed with the 49ers in the offseason after sitting out one season. He caught 33 passes for 505 yards and three touchdowns in 18 games this season.
His leadership, production, attitude and work ethic, among other things, prompted coach Jim Harbaugh to say that he wants Moss back next season.
"I've thought about it," Moss said. "I really want to play another year."
When asked if he wanted to re-sign with the 49ers, Moss said: "I don't know about that."
