Jennifer Lawrence Nearly Rips Dress As She Wins Best Actress At SAG Awards For Sports Film Silver Linings Playbook, Is She Favorite For Academy Awards?

Jennifer Lawrence is one of Hollywood's most sought-after actresses, having starred in hit films like "The Hunger Games" and "X-Men First Class."

The Kentucky born actress will be in even higher demand now, as she took home the Best Actress award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night. The win puts her as the front-runner over "Zero Dark Thirty" actress Jessica Chastain, who was also nominated. The two actors each won Golden Globes for their roles in those films, with Lawrence taking the award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical and Chastain winning for the dramatic side.

Lawrence made note of the first job she had that earned her the SAG card she now carries, mentioning that it was a number of advertising promotions for the MTV series "My Super Sweet 16."

"I want to thank MTV," Lawrence said. "I'll explain that. I earned my SAG card when I was 14. I did an MTV promo for 'My Super Sweet 16.' And I remember getting it in the mail and it being the best day of my entire life, because it officially made me a professional actor, which put me in the category with all of you."

The actress beat out Chastain, Marion Cotillard, Naomi Watts and Helen Mirren and she's now the favorite to win Best Actress at the 85th annual Academy Awards on Feb. 24. The film ("Silver Linings Playbook") revolves around actor Bradley Cooper, who plays Pat Solitano, a bi-polar man who has just been released from an eight-month stint in a mental hospital. He works hard at rehabilitating himself so that he can reconnect with his wife, who he is not allowed to contact due to a restraining order out against him.

Solitano, along with his father, played by Robert De Niro, are die-hard Eagles fans and during the movie Cooper attends a game at Lincoln Financial Field. De Niro's character is a sports gambler who bets everything on football games and is a superstitious type who needs everything a certain way so his Eagles can win. The two characters discuss the Eagles and the games they played in during the 2008 season, which is when the film takes place.

There is also a main storyline involving Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Tiffany Maxwell, a socially awkward girl much like Cooper's character. She convinces him to help her participate in a dance competition.

The film was directed by David O. Russell, whose last film was another sports-related feature, "The Fighter", which starred Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale as boxer Mickey Ward and his trainer brother. "Silver Linings" also shares a city connection with a sports movie that wasn't forgotten during the Oscars with "Rocky", which also took place in Philadelphia and won Best Picture.

Lawrence made the audience at home gasp as she won the award, as her Dior Couture dress stuck on someone's chai and then appeared to separate around mid-thigh, revealing several inches of leg. Luckily, when she stood on stage accepting her award, the dress seemed to be totally fine. The award was presented by her Silver Linings co-star Robert De Niro.

Her co-star Bradley Cooper also made some headlines recently, as it was rumored he was tied to a new film in which he would play disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong.

Rumors started coming out last week that the actor was set to portray Lance Armstrong in an upcoming film, but Cooper used the SAG awards to quash that talk.

According to Yahoo.com, Cooper said in an interview with Access Hollywood at Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards that he would not be playing the part. When asked about it by a reporter, Cooper answered with a "no" regarding the disgraced cyclist.

"Oh my god, that's so nuts!" he said, amused by the chatter.

"Silver Linings" was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including including Best Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director (David O. Russell), Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Robert de Niro and Jacki Weaver, respectively), Best Actor (Bradley Cooper), and Best Picture. The film also became the first picture to be nominated for four acting awards, best picture, writing and best directing since Warren Beatty's 1981 film "Reds", which chronicled the Russian Revolution.
