"Iron Man 3" trailer is set for the Super Bowl along with "Star Trek Into Darkness", "World War Z" and "The Lone Ranger", who will all premiere footage during the big game.
The Super Bowl is the biggest football game of the year, but it's also the biggest advertising day of the year.
Companies buy ridiculously expensive 30-second slots for millions of dollars and produce a range of interesting, annoying, loud, funny and over-the-top advertisements. As much as people talk about the football the next day, just as much goes on about the commercials.
One of the biggest and most anticipated parts of the commercials is always the premiere of new movie trailers and footage. In the past, such blockbusters like "The Dark Knight Rises", "Transformers" and "Star Trek" have premiered footage during the game and that will contnie this year, with a number of high-profile releases getting new trailers.
According to HitFix.com, Disney will be showing off a whole host of new movies, including a 60-second spot for "Iron Man 3", as well as a 90-second pre-game spot for the Johnny Depp western "The Lone Ranger". There will also be footage of "Oz The Great and Powerful", which comes out in March.
Other companies getting in on the action include Paramount, who will premiere a 30-second spot for "World War Z" (starring brad Pitt) during the pre-game. The studio will also release a new 30-second spot for J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek Into Darkness."
Not all the big companies are getting involved in the game though. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "20th Century Fox and Sony will be sitting on the sidelines during the big game, despite the fact that the former has "The Wolverine" upcoming, while the latter is prepping Roland Emmerich's "White House Down" for a June release. Likewise, Warner Bros. also won't be shilling Baz Luhrmann's 3D "The Great Gatsby," even though it's hitting theaters in May."
According to the website, last year ads cost companies a reported $4 million for each 30 seconds during the game, which earned a record-breaking 111.3 million viewers.
All the companies have used the game for previous trailer premieres and each of the films mentioned is expected to be a financial blockbuster for the production studios. "Iron Man 3" is the newest film from Marvel and Disney, following last summer's smash hit "The Avengers".
