Tottenham are finally looking like sealing the signature of one of their long-term targets, with the North London club making an improved offer for Brazilian international Leandro Damiao.
Internacional have so far rebuffed all advances from Spurs for their prime striker; however, it now looks like Tottenham are closing in on Damiao, with the Brazilian club reportedly revealing their willingness to sell.
Tottenham have launched a £19.7 million ($15.5 million) offer for the 23-year-old, an amount which is expected to be accepted by Internacional, according to ClicRBS.
Andre-Villas Boas is in desperate need of a striker, with Jermain Defoe's long-term health a concern due to a hip injury which might require surgery. Spurs' second striker Emmanuel Adebayor is out at the Africa Cup of Nations with Togo.
Damiao is seen as one of the brightest stars in the Brazilian game, and starred for his country at the London Olympics, ending up as the tournament's top scorer.
Spurs are one of several clubs vying for a top-four place in the English Premier League and the signing of Damiao will go a long way in ensuring they play in the Champions League next season.
Meanwhile, Norwich manager Chris Hughton, whose side drew 1-1 against Tottenham Wednesday, admitted the club are close to agreeing a deal with Leeds United for Luciano Becchio, who recently handed in a transfer request.
Norwich are working on a deal to bring the 29-year-old forward to Carrow Road, with Steve Morrison possibly going the other way.
"The clubs are in discussion and that is one I hope gets done," Hughton told reporters in his post-match press conference.
"Whether Steve Morison has to be part of the deal or not, I don't know, but that is the way the talks are going. All I know is we are in discussions with Leeds. We hope that can be concluded."
Hughton also revealed Norwich have had several bids for Gary Hooper rejected by Celtic.
"With Hooper everyone knows where we are with him," Hughton added.
"We have put in bids that have been turned down. That is their prerogative. He is a very important player for them. Whether anything else happens, I don't know.
"Do I think there will be any other business done? I don't think so. The striking department was the most important one so I don't expect anything else to happen apart from the ones we are looking at."
