NFL Hall of Famer and current CBS analyst Dan Marino has reportedly paid to keep in secrecy a child he fathered in wedlock with another CBS employee in 2005.
The New York Post is reporting that the ex-Miami Dolphin quarterback had relations with Donna Savattere, a then 35-year-old production assistant at CBS's Manhattan based studio. Savattere gave birth to their daughter, Chloe, in June of 2005.
After the birth of their daughter, the Post reports Marino "agreed to pay millions" and Savattere was moved from New York to Texas and kept their relationship and child a secret.
"This is a personal and private matter. I take full responsibility both personally and financially for my actions now as I did then," Marino said in a statement. "We mutually agreed to keep our arrangement private to protect all parties involved."
Marino has been married for 28 years to his wife, Claire, with whom he has four sons and two adopted daughters.
"My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years and have six children together," Marino said. "And we continue to be a strong and loving family."
A source says Marino, 51, has been in touch with his now-7-year-old daughter.
"They would have impromptu meetings, which was part of the deal," a source said.
"Donna was always saying she had to go meet with her lawyers to go over the scheduling and other issues."
Marino has been a member of CBS' The NFL Today pregame show since 2003, and will be part of the CBS Super Bowl telecast Sunday, which starts at 2 p.m. ET ahead of the game's 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
In addition to his Super Bowl appearance this weekend, Marino will be featured in an ESPN documentary this spring.
