Jan 31, 2013 11:35 AM EST

A game was cancelled after a robbery occurred at Ohio University, forcing the school to cancel their game against Eastern Michigan on Wednesday.

According to Yahoo Sports, the university was forced to cancel its basketball game against Eastern Michigan on Wednesday night due to a morning armed robbery near the campus. The suspect was at-large at the time of the game and earlier in the day he robbed a woman of $5 at an apartment complex and fled toward a campus building.

According to the report, students were told to stay in their residence halls, while non-essential employees were allowed to leave for the day.

"For those asking, yes this is for real. We do not believe the threat is imminent," Ryan Lombardi, Ohio's vice president of student affairs, said on Twitter. "President (Roderick) McDavis made decision as a precautionary measure as suspect is still at large. @ohiou will reopen tomorrow morning."

The school sent out alerts through its emergency text and email system at 9:59 a.m. ET, according to reports. Classes were canceled for the day to ensure safety of the student body.

According to the school's website, "efforts will be made to reschedule" the Mid-American Conference game against Eastern Michigan.

The bobcats are currently 15-5 and are in second place in the MAC conference with a 6-0 record. The team has won seven straight games prior to the canceled contest and will next go on the road against Akron on Feb. 2.

Senior D.J. Cooper has been the best player on the team this season, leading Ohio in scoring and assists with 14.6 points and 8.2 dimes per game. He is adding 3.5 rebounds and has scored in double digits in six of the past eight games. He had a double-double of 12 points and 17 assists against Marshall and added 23 points in Saturday's 69-68 win over Kent State.

Last season the Bobcats went to the NCAA tournament and defeated Michigan in the first round and South Florida in the second before losing to North Carolina in the regional semifinals.
