News of snowmobiler Caleb Moore's death has struck the hearts of many of his fans and supporters who were campaigning "Pray for Caleb Moore" through the social media.

Moore, 25, was competing in the snowmobile freestyle final of the Winter X Games last Thursday in Aspen, Colorado, when he came up just short of landing while trying to do a back flip.

The front of the snowmobile's skis clipped the landing hill and caused Moore to shot forward over the handlebars. The 450-pound snowmobile then proceeded to roll over his body, but he was able to walk away off his own power.

Moore was then rushed to a local hospital where there it was discovered that he was suffering from internal bleeding around his heart.

On Sunday members of his family announced that Moore developed a secondary complication involving his brain, but at the time details weren't disclosed the severity of the damage.

"Caleb is in critical condition and is being closely monitored," family spokeswoman Chelsea Lawson said Tuesday. "The Moores want to express their gratitude to all of Caleb's fans, friends and family for their strong support and ask for continued prayers in the coming days. The family will not be making any other public statements for the time being. Thank you for respecting the family's privacy during this difficult time."

ESPN released a statement Tuesday that said, "We've worked closely on safety issues with athletes, course designers and other experts for each of the 18 years of X Games. Still, when the world's best compete at the highest level in any sport, risks remain. Caleb is a four-time X Games medalist who fell short on his rotation on a move he has landed several times previously."

"He will be truly missed and never forgotten," his family said in a statement.
