Super Bowl Blackout: Lights Went Out at the Superdome in 3rd Quarter

Feb 03, 2013 08:50 PM EST

Super Bowl XLVII was interrupted in the third quarter after a power outage took control of the game at the Super Bowl.

There was 13:22 remaining in the third quarter and the San Francisco 49ers were marching up field against the Baltimore Ravens as they were trailing 28-6.

Apparently, Beyonce had sucked up all the power out of the Superdome. Her performance was so strong that it it absorbed probably all the power around New Orleans.

Or maybe it was Jacoby Jones' fault.

Jones kicked off the second half with a 109-yard kickoff return for the longest in the history of the Super Bowl. That touchdown put the Ravens up 28-6 and helped the Ravens continue to dominate that game.

Joe Flacco had been burning the 49ers all game long, so maybe this break will serve San Francisco well. The 49ers defense has been lagging all game long slacking on tackles. They have had multlple chances to sack Flacco, but he has escaped. He completed a huge pass to Anquan Boldin while being surrounded by three 49ers defenders.

So far, the stats have the Ravens outperforming the 49ers in total yards (241-208), first downs (14-11) and they have no turnovers. The 49ers have committed two turnovers with a fumble and an interception.

They are working on getting the power up as half of the stadium was without light.

Look for analysts to say that the blackout will give the 49ers an advantage as the game has been suddenly stopped.
