The Super Bowl and the NFL have continued to grow year after year and 2013 game was no different, as the event broke television ratings records once again.
CBS benefitted the most from the game, as the average overnight household rating of 48.1/71, the highest-rated Super Bowl in metered market history, according to Deadline.com. The report says that the game was up one percent from last season's New York Giants-New England Patriots game, breaking the 47.9/71 record.
There was a peak in the ratings with a 52.9/75 in the last half hour of the game, while the Beyoncé half time show in the 8 - 8:30 PM ET time slot scored a 48.2/71. The show airing after the game, "Elementary", averaged 12.0/24 in metered markets.
The game featured many different commercials and ads, including ones from Dodge Ram featuring Paul Harvey's speech, Oreo with a blackout tweet, Go Daddy with model Bar Rafeli, SodaStream's controversial banned ad, as well as a Coke ad that was considered racist.
The game was notable for having a 30 minute delay due to a blackout and was the first time two brothers ever coached against each other in the Super Bowl.
