Last night's Super Bowl gave viewers a few noteworthy musical moments before Beyonce took the stage at halftime, as Alicia Keys performed the National Anthem and Jennifer Hudson joined with Sandy Hook students for "America the Beautiful."
Even though Alicia Keys and Beyonce's performances will both be remembered, it's the opening act made by Hudson and Sandy Hook choir that is sure to live in the hearts of many who watched the game.
Members of the school chorus were invited to perform after the horrible shooting incident that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Conn. last fall.
Hudson's "America the Beautiful" was strong, but the addition of the Sandy Hook students gave the performance a meaningful touch.
"We have come to New Orleans to represent the Sandy Hook Family and the community of Newtown, Connecticut," the students said in a statement. "Our wish is to demonstrate to America and the world that, 'We are Sandy Hook and We Choose Love.'"
The students sang the first verse by themselves, then were joined by Hudson for the rest of the song. Even the players and coaches on the sidelines seemed touched by the performance.
