Today is the best day of pancake lovers and what is better than free pancakes for a good cause? For the eighth year in a row, IHOP restaurants will be offering a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes today from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. So pour on that syrup and lather on the butter and be prepared to donate to some money for a good cause.
IHOP National Pancake Day began in 2006 as a way to raise money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other local charities. The restaurant chain says it has raised over $10 million for the organizations since the beloved tradition began. In 2012, IHOP raised more than $3 million for charities. This year's goal is to match the $3 million that was made last year. When someone goes to an IHOP to receive their free short stack, all they are asked to do is make a donation at the restaurant. 100 percent of the proceeds earned on IHOP National Pancake Day go to the charities.
IHOP National Pancake Day is not to be confused with Pancake Day, or Shrove Day, as some might know it. Pancake Day is traditionally celebrated on Fat Tuesday, which is the last day before Lent begins. The tradition is to eat all of the bad foods before fasting during the Lent time period. This year's Shrove Day will be next Tuesday, Feb. 12. So, that is two weeks in a row that one has an excuse to eat as many pancakes as desired.
IHOP is a national chain restaurant to participating should be easy and convenient. Head over to IHOP's website to find the closest location. Don't forget to donate after enjoying the free pancakes.
