New York Jets Rumors: Ahmad Bradshaw Should Draw Interest As Giants Release Players

Feb 06, 2013 04:39 PM EST

The New York Giants released Ahmad Bradshaw and Chris Canty on Wednesday afternoon according to sources. Now, with Bradshaw on the market, the New York Jets have a chance to make some noise now and improve their running game which helped the team get to the AFC Championship game two years in a row.

The years were 2009 and 2010 and they seem far removed after the Jets put together very disappointing 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Those were the days when Ladanian Tomlinson was the Jets' back and Mark Sanchez was receiving help with a decent running game. Sanchez and the Jets were injured in 2012, so signing Bradshaw might be a little problematic for them, but when healthy, Bradshaw is a beast. He can bring some attitude and fire to the Jets' offensive squad and of course, he's a two-time champion.

Though he suffered foot problems. Bradshaw rushed for 1,015 yards and he was splitting time with the new guys Andre Brown and David Wilson. He only started 12 games this past season, so sharing time with Shonn Greene wouldn't be a problem. Bradshaw was also used to splitting time on the field with Brandon Jacobs when he first entered the league in 2007.

Having a combo of Bradshaw and Greene will give the Jets a dynamic duo. Back in 2009, the Jets led the league in running, passing wasn't the No. 1 option. They averaged 172 yards per game and then in 2010 they were fourth in the NFL averaging 148 yards per game.

The thought is that the Giants are clearing cap space for their upcoming signings of Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks. Losing Canty is pretty big since he was one of the most effective linemen this year, but apparently, the Giants are looking to keep their offense in tact for years to come.

For now, Giants fans will have to thank Bradshaw for all he did and of course, who will forget the butt touchdown that sealed the deal against the New England Patriots?

He is the sixth leading rusher in Giants history after totaling 4,232 yards over the past six seasons.
