Former Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Jevon Kearse, one of the most ferocious defensive players of all time, is facing a foreclosure on his Pompano Beach, Fla., home according to the South Florida Business Journal.
According to Yahoo Sports, Kearse purchased the house for just over $6 million back in 2004, right after he left the Titans to sign a deal with the Eagles. The report says he later took a mortgage on the home for just over $5 million. According to the Journal: "Kearse bought the 6,064-square-foot home along the ocean at 2301 Bay Drive for $6.05 million in 2004. Two years later, he signed a $5.25 million mortgage on it."
For a time, Kearse was one of the most dominating players in football, winning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in leading the Titans to the Super Bowl in 1999, and he later appeared in a Super Bowl in his first year with the Eagles.
Kearse was nicknamed "The Freak" for his impressive athletic talents and after starring at the University of Florida, he was drafted by the Titans in 1999. After leaving Tennessee he signed a huge free agent deal with the Eagles, which included a $16 million signing bonus. The high price came back to bite him later on, as the Eagles released him in early 2008 and voided the final three years of his contract. He returned to Tennessee to play two more seasons with the Titans on a $6 million deal.
According to the Journal, "In November, the IRS filed a tax lien against Kearse for $432,015 based on his 2010 income."
Kearse's best season came early, as in his first three years he had over 30.0 sacks, reaching above double-digits in each of those years. During the rest of his career, Kearse did not record more than 10 sacks in any season and finished his career with 74, including 4.5 over his final two years.
