It's NBA All-Star Weekend in Houston and Jeremy Lin is nowhere to be found. He might sit in the crowd and show his face to the game since it'll be hosted by his Rockets, but after fans saw Lin's future so bright, did he deserve a spot in the NBA All-Star game or was the point guard snubbed?
Lin is putting up the typical numbers that he had in New York, but this year, there's really no hype surrounding the Harvard graduate. The Rockets are in the playoff picture as they are sitting in eighth place and Lin is playing ball the way Lin played ball in Madison Square Garden.
He's averaging 12.6 points and 6.1 assists per game.
Should the point guard, who is officially entering his third year in the NBA, have been picked to play? He was pretty close in the voting to Western Conference starter Chris Paul. As the week narrowed down, Lin was just 45,000 points away from the Los Angeles Clippers guard and 2013 MVP candidate.
It's just an exhibition game, it really shouldn't mean anything. Having Lin start over Paul wouldn't have been the biggest crime committed at the 2013 All-Star game. If anything, having Lin start in the All-Star game would have been a perfect excuse since he is from Houston.
There are already enough guys being left out from the roster, one more wouldn't make a difference. Marc Gasol and Stephen Curry are putting up great numbers and they couldn't find a place in the roster.
Fans like Lin, does this mean he's better than Paul, absolutely not. Lin said it himself, he didn't deserve to start the All-Star game. It will be interesting to see down the road if Lin averages 17 points per game and betters his defense if he will ultimately surpass Paul, who's the best point guard in the NBA, in All-Star voting.
You can catch the All-Star festivities beginning this Friday Feb. 15.
If it makes fans feel better, James Harden will be the sole Rocket representative in this week's games.
