Spring Training continues and the St. Louis Cardinals play the New York Mets at 1 p.m. ET. Don't miss the action as a live stream is available which will allow you to watch the game online.
It will be the beginning of a new generation of Mets pitching as Zack Wheeler will take the mound. Though it's only an exhibition game, the Mets have been waiting to introduce this guy to the majors. They acquired the young right hander in the Carlos Beltran deal with the San Francisco Giants. Wheeler is currently the team's No. 1 prospect.
Wheeler is a strikeout pitcher. There's no doubt about that as his numbers illustrate this fact. In 322 innings in the minors, Wheeler has recorded 347 strikeouts in his three years of development.
The Mets, who are 1-2, will look to bounce back and continue working on the things this spring. They lost to the Miami Marlins 7-5. Expect these two teams to compete for the last two spots in the N.L. East as the Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals are set to control the division.
As for the Cardinals, they are off to a 2-2 start in Spring Training and will have Lance Lynn on the mound. The Cards are wondering which Lynn they will getting in 2013. Lynn was in the Cy Young Award race early in the season after getting off to a quick start in 2012. However, many baseball analysts believe Lynn's arm grew tired as the season came to a close, which led to repeated poor performances.
The Cardinals are looking to extend and build on a successful 2012 season that saw them fight for an N.L. Championship against the eventual World Series winners, San Francisco Giants. The Cardinals couldn't matchup to the Giants' intensity and as a result, the fell in six games.
St. Louis is coming off a huge victory against the Boston Red Sox where they crossed the plate 15 times while only allowing four. They accomplished this feat with only one home run, though they took advantage of the Red Sox's three errors.
