Cuba is always doing a terrific job placing the best players they have on the field for international tournaments. However, look for them to enter the 2013 WBC with a monkey on their backs. In 2009 they departed the tournament in the second round. That's been their earliest exit in international competition. They can take care of Japan in the first round as they were responsible for both of Cuba's exits from the tournament in 2009 and in the championship game in 2006.

However, Cuba has to focus on the task at hand as have to take advantage of a Brazilian team that is currently down after losing a game they should have won against Japan. They lost 5-3 to the Japanese squad after surrendering the lead late in the game.

Cuba has to win today to put this team's hope on the respirator. Many are talking about Brazil being the Cinderella team of the tournament and underdogs are always dangers in competitions.
