San Francisco 49ers Rumors: Cullen Jenkins Meeting with Team on Tuesday?

Defensive tackle, Cullen Jenkins could be on his way to San Fransciso as the 49ers have been rumored in having interests in acquiring the free agent.

Jenkins, who just turned 32 in late January, was released by the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in the season. Though his age might raise some eyebrows, Jenkins proved extremely effective in his time with the Eagles.

After being acquired from the Green Bay Packers, the now nine-year veteran didn't miss a game in Philadelphia playing in all 32 games of the past two seasons. This was only the third time in his career where he was healthy enough to play a full season. He totaled 9.5 sacks between the two seasons and forced a fumble.

In 2011, Jenkins put together one of his best seasons gathering a career-high 33 tackles. Prior to this season, his high was 26 when he was 26 and playing in his fourth season with the Packers.

Rumors also have the 49ers' rival and potential NFC West champion, Seattle Seahawks, meeting with Jenkins as they too could become a possible suitor for the defensive tackle.

Without a doubt, both teams would greatly improve with Jenkins' help the 49ers and Seahawks. However, these teams had two of the best defenses in the league last season. The Seahawks allowed 15.3 points, the least in the NFL. The 49ers followed with 17.1 points allowed per game for the second lowest average in the NFL in 2012.

Rumors also have the New York Giants as the only team with actual interests in acquiring Jenkins. The Giants could use some help on defense following their release of Chris Canty in early February.

Both Jenkins and Canty are players who can change the look on any team's defensive line. Both guys are Super Bowl champions and can help guide younger playerson the field and in the locker room.
