Arsenal Transfer News: Petr Cech to Move to the Emirates in the Summer?

Arsenal are being linked with a player, who if he moves to the Emirates, would be one of the most surprising transfer moves in recent history.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is on a list of six goalkeepers that Arsenal are looking at, in view to a move in the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The reports suggests Arsenal have sent scouts to have a look at Cech extensively this season - although why on earth Arsene Wenger, who missed out on signing Cech well before he signed for Chelsea, would need scouts to tell him how well the keeper plays, baffles the mind.

The list of six are Pepe Reina, Victor Valdes, Asmir Begovic, Rene Adler, Michel Vorm and of course Cech.

The five, apart from the Chelsea man, are very high possibilities, although Asmir Begovic might be unlikely as he is only 25 years of age; with Wojciech Szczesny still firmly seen as Arsenal's future, the Gunners might go in for a more experienced goalkeeper in the mould of a Reina or a Valdes.

Yes, Cech is also experienced and would fit that particular criteria of acting as a mentor to Szczesny perfectly, but the move won't happen for one simple reason - Chelsea will not sell.

The Blues do have Thibaut Courtois in their ranks, with the goalkeeper going from strength to strength during his time with Atletico Madrid, and, like Szczesny, Chelsea see the young Belgian as their future.

However, some people forget that Cech is still only 30, still young for a goalkeeper, who can easily play up to their late 30s, if not more.

While the Czech Republic international might not be the same goalkeeper he was since he suffered that infamous head injury, there is little doubt that he is still among the best in the world.

Chelsea might cut ties with Cech sooner rather than later, but will most likely sell him to a club outside the English Premier League.

Only Arsenal, for some reason, seem to continue selling their best players to their immediate competition. If Robin Van Persie had not been sold to United, they would not have been on the verge of winning the title this year; that is a simple fact.

Of course, Arsenal might not have competed for the title either, but the least Wenger could have done was to sell to a club outside England, even if they might not have recouped the same amount as United paid.

Unlike Arsenal, though, Chelsea have no obligation to sell. Cech is committed to the club and has made no noises about wanting to move.

Arsenal will have to pay silly money for Chelsea to even consider selling, and that is not going to happen either.

The Gunners need an experienced goalkeeper, no doubt, and while Cech would be an amazing addition, the more likely signing is either Reina or Valdes.
