Jennifer Capriati Charged With Stalking and Battery Of Ex-Boyfriend Following Valentine's Day Incident, Will Appear In Court After Gym Attack

Former tennis champion Jennifer Capriati was charged for punching her ex-boyfriend on Valentine's Day, said police in North Palm Beach in Florida.

According to the Associated Press, Capriati was charged on Wednesday by local prosecutors and that she has been issued a summons to appear in court in April on both stalking and battery charges. She was not arrested and the records show that she went after her boyfriend while he was at work at a gym.

According to North Palm Beach Police, Capriati went after her ex-boyfriend Ivan Brannan while he was working out. The tennis star yelled at him and when he tried to get away she blocked him and then started punching him. The two broke up in 2012 and Brannan told police that she had previously been stalking and harassing him.

The NY Daily News spoke to West Palm Beach attorney Richard Lubin, who said the charges are "nonsense" and the Capriati is innocent. This is not the first time the tennis star has been involved with the law, as she dealt with drug issues early in her career.

Capriati was enshrined in the International Tennis Hall of Fame last year and now she has another tarnish on her legacy. Capriati's off court issues first started when she was a teenager after winning a gold medal and reaching the French Open semifinals, as she was busted for shoplifting and marijuana and eventually was away from tennis for over a year.

Capriati made a comeback and won the Australian Open in 2001 as well as the French Open and number one ranking, but now all that seems very long ago. It appeared her hall of fame induction would change things for good, but clearly that was not the case.
