Liverpool Transfer News: Suarez Will Leave Without CL Qualification, According to Cavani; Reds Looking at Cut-Price Move for Weimann

Liverpool could lose out on Luis Suarez if they do not qualify for the Champions League, according to the striker's compatriot Edinson Cavani.

Suarez has been fulfilling his dream of playing for the club he supported as a boy, and after a difficult start to life in England, has quickly become one of the best strikers in the English Premier League and indeed Europe.

Liverpool, however, have not been able to hit the heights of their bygone era and look likely to miss playing in Europe's elite competition yet again.

Cavani, who plays with Suarez in the Uruguay national team, believes his international teammate could leave Anfield if Liverpool continue to underachieve.

"The fact is that Luis is one of the top strikers in the world and he wants to be playing Champions League football," Cavani was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

"Of course, Liverpool are not going to make it this season. But if they don't make it next season then they will have a problem.

"Luis would love to play in the Champions League with Liverpool. But if he can't then a player of his quality needs to play for a club where he can.

"I know it meant a lot when Liverpool stood by him through some tough times and he has a lot of love for the club and their fans."

Those comments could mean that Suarez will most likely remain with Liverpool for another season, with the Uruguayan likely to consider his future in the summer of 2014 depending on the club's position at the end of next year.

The 26-year-old recently added fuel to his exit fire by admitting that he could leave Liverpool if a club in the Champions League made an offer.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are looking to take advantage of the contract standoff between Andreas Weimann and Aston Villa.

Villa are under serious threat of relegation at the moment, and could lose out on some of their talented players like Christian Benteke and Weimann if they were to go down.

However, Weimann is looking likely to leave the club in the summer no matter what after refusing to sign a new contract extension for the third time. His current deal expires in the summer of 2014.

The Austrian international has been in good form this season, scoring 11 goals for Villa as they bid to avoid the dreaded drop.

Weimann would be a good addition to the ever-growing crop of youngsters at Anfield, with the 21-year-old only expected to cost around £5 million ($7.6 million).
