Former Houston Astros Manager Grady Hatton Dies At 90

Former Major League Baseball third baseman Grady Hatton has died at the age of 90.

Alyssa Hatton, his granddaughter, says Hatton died Thursday of the effects of old age at his home in Warren, the rural East Texas Piney Woods town.

According to the Examiner, Hatton played third base for the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, and St. Louis Cardinals over an MLB career that stretched from 1946 through 1960. His career batting average was a .254 and he hit 91 home runs with 533 RBIs in 1,312 games over his career.

Hatton's best season came in 1947 when he hit .281 with 16 homers and 77 RBIs.

After his playing career ended, he went on to manage the Houston Astros from 1966-68. His record as the Astros manager was 164-221.

The Beaumont native starred at the University of Texas and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A funeral is scheduled for Monday at First Baptist Church of Warren. He will be buried Mount Pisgah Cemetery near Woodville.
