New York Knicks veteran forward Rasheed Wallace has announced Wednesday his retirement from the NBA for the second time in his career.
Wallace played 21 games this season with the Knicks but missed majority of the season with a stress fracture in his right foot.
He returned to the floor on Monday against the Charlotte Bobcats for the first time since Dec 13 but played a total of four minutes before leaving the game because of foot soreness. The team had hopes that Wallace would return by the playoffs.
"Rasheed has given this team everything he had," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said in a statement provided by the team. "He is a winner, true professional and leader on and off the court. Due to his injury, he will not be available to play for us during the playoffs."
Wallace has played 15 seasons in the NBA and has one championship to his name after winning with the Detroit Pistons in 2004. He first retired in 2010 after one season with the Boston Celtics but came out of it in October in order to sign with the Knicks.
The four-time NBA All-Star finishes his career with averages of 14.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. He also finishes as the all-time leader in technical fouls with 304.
