Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Free Agency Starts In July As Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Josh Smith Top Names, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Steve Nash Can Win Without Center

The Los Angeles Lakers went through a tough season last year while dealing with injuries and drama and point guard Steve Nash had both of those while dealing with his ex-wife and where she will live and that fight continues in court for the star.

According to ESPN.com, Nash has been fighting to keep his wife and three kids from moving with him to California from Phoenix, as he says the main reason is to get more money from him while playing for the Lakers. The report says that Nash and Alejandra Amarilla Menrath divorced in late 2011 and since the settlement didn't include child support, she is working a way to get more money.

Nash pays for the education for the children and health insurance and while making nearly $10 million per season with the Lakers, Menrath is looking for a way to get more money. According to Nash's attorney, if she moves the family to California, she will be able to try and petition the court to get more money from Nash. The former NBA MVP has been dealing with his ex-wife in court for a while and he is hoping that next season it isn't an issue.

Nash dealt with injuries and the Lakers got off to a disappointing start and almost missed the playoffs before making it in as the seventh seed with a 45-37 record. The team ranked sixth in scoring and fourth in rebounding but was 22nd in points allowed and 17th in assists since Nash was hurt. The team is planning on going hard after star Dwight Howard, but there is no guarantee that he will return.

Kobe Bryant is coming back from a serious injury and although Paul Gasol is getting older, the trio still feels that it has another championship run in them. The Lakers have said that there is a chance that they could trade Gasol, but that talk has been going on for years and despite the fact that the Lakers are an old team, they could go after some other free agents if Howard leaves. Rumors have him heading for the Mavericks, Rockets, Hawks or Warriors and while the Lakers want to try and keep him, they will figure out a new plan if he decides to leave. The team didn't mesh well at first with coach D'Antoni and after Bryant was injured things fell apart.

The team was swept out by the Spurs and now they look towards next season as hopeful that Brant can return to full strength. The team will look at free agents, but with their tough financial situation they will have to find some players that fit roles rather than signing stars, although they could go crazy and try to get Chris Paul or someone like that.
