Tim Tebow is still a free agent after dealing with the New York Jets fiasco that was the 2012 season and while he has had trouble finding work in the NFL, one team that saw what he can do first hand in the Pittsburgh Steelers says that the quarterback still has a future in the league, but apparently that is all over, as Bill Belichick and the Patriots finally decided to sign the quarterback.
According to NFL.com, the Steelers spoke about Tebow to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and after the quarterback defeated the team in the playoffs with the Denver Broncos, they remarked that they feel he can succeed in the league after winning games as the starter for the Broncos in 2011. Steelers linebacker Larry Foote praised the quarterback and said that he earned the ability to at least compete for a job in the league after what he did in the playoffs and that season and added that he should be on a roster somewhere, not necessarily saying its Pittsburgh.
Steelers defensive lineman Brett Keisel echoed the sentiments of Foote, saying that Tebow deserves credit for the playoff win and that he should get a shot in the league just based on that and not the media hype that surrounds him. Tebow led the Broncos back from a 1-4 start and led the team to the playoffs before winning against the Steelers in overtime. Tebow threw for 316 yards and two touchdowns on that day in January 2012 and while that was his last win with the Broncos and last win as a starter, he hopes that it's not the last of his career.
Ike Taylor was burned on that day in the game for the loss, he also had praise for the quarterback, saying that he was one of the best competitive players that he has seen and that even though it's up to the GMs and coaches, he deserves a shot. Tebow has received a number of offers from around football, but not any in the NFL, including the Arena League from Ron Jaworski and the Philly Soul, the Omaha Beef of the indoor league, the Canadian Football league and more. Tebow has received advice from Chuck Norris and Tony Dungy and now he has to figure out what his next move is. Backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski said he was surprised he couldn't get a job and one reason may be the crazy media hype and attention that follows Tebow wherever he goes.
An ESPN report painted that some in his camp feel that Tebow's career is over, but his father refuted that and said that it was not true. Tebow had a rough season with the Jets, as they had no clue how to use him effectively and he gained just 102 yards rushing and 39 passing on the season. He gained weight for the team and they ever gave him a chance to shine and now he needs a new job.
