Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Agree Fee with Sunderland for Simon Mignolet; Luis Alberto Excited by Anfield Move

Liverpool have agreed a fee with Sunderland for goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, while Sevilla forward Luis Alberto, on the verge of completing a move to Anfield, said he was looking forward to the challenge of sparkling in the English Premier League.

The Reds have been quite busy in the transfer market, having agreed a free transfer for Kolo Toure from Manchester City, with a deal in principle in place for Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas.

The signing total now looks to swell in the next few days, with the Reds closing in on a couple more signings.

According to reports in the British press, Liverpool have finally agreed a fee with Sunderland for Mignolet, believed to be in excess of £11 million ($17 million).

The two clubs have been in talks over the goalkeeper for quite a while now and a deal looked inevitable with manager Brendan Rodgers reportedly making his interest clear.

Mignolet said he would find it difficult to turn down a move to a big club, even if the Belgian international still had two years remaining on his contract.

The goalkeeper will now head to Anfield for a medical and to discuss personal terms sometime next week.

If the reports do turn out to be true, then it will cast serious doubts over the future of current No.1 goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

The Spanish international, currently with the Spain squad at the Confederations Cup, has repeatedly insisted he wants to stay and at the very least see out his contract with Liverpool, despite interest from Barcelona.

The Spanish champions are yet to make a move for Reina, with Victor Valdes saying he will see out the final year of his contract before moving on a free transfer next summer.

If Liverpool do bring in Mignolet, who was easily Sunderland's best player last season, Rodgers will have to find a way to offload Reina, or face a possibility of having to handle two goalkeepers who want to start every single game, especially with the 2014 World Cup looming large.

Meanwhile, talented Sevilla forward Alberto is close to officially becoming a Liverpool player after the Reds agreed on an initial £6 million ($9.2 million) fee, which could rise by a further £800,000 ($1.2 million) based on appearances and success.

"I'm very much looking forward to it," Alberto said of the Liverpool switch.

"I'm going to a club like Liverpool, a new culture, a new language, I have to adapt quickly but I'm really looking forward to this big step.

"There are many Spaniards in England and they are doing quite well.

"Seeing all of them succeeding there motivates me even more."
