Brazil midfielder Paulinho revealed Tottenham have made an official offer to his club Corinthians in a bid to bring him to the English Premier League.
Spurs are thought to have had a bid of around £17 million ($26 million) accepted by Corinthians, and according to Paulinho a firm offer is definitely on the table, but a decision will be made only after the Confederations Cup.
"There is an official offer from Tottenham to Corinthians," Paulinho said after Brazil's 4-2 win over Italy, which he missed with due to injury.
"But, as I did when there was an Inter Milan offer, I'll sit and decide with my family before I make any decision.
"I will only do it after the Confederations Cup because it's hard to deal with all these things."
Corinthians director of football Edu - yes the same Edu who had a wonderful career with Spurs' biggest rivals Arsenal - admitted Tottenham were indeed close to sealing a move for Paulinho, who was last season heavily linked with a switch to Chelsea.
"The situation is well under way," he told UOL.
"We have to agree on some details of the negotiation, so I can't say he will leave yet, but the negotiations are good."
If Paulinho does indeed make his move to White Hart Lane, it will cast serious doubts over the futures of Scott Parker and Tom Huddlestone.
Parker missed a good chunk of the season last year due to injury, and with age catching up with the midfielder, Andre Villas-Boas could be ready to let go of the former West Ham and Chelsea man.
Huddlestone did reasonably well when given a chance towards the end of the season, but the midfielder might have to look for a move away if he is to receive regular playing time.
Sandro, who suffered a season-ending injury, is expected to be fit for the new season, and it will be interesting to see how Villas-Boas fits the two Brazilian internationals in his lineup.
