New York Giants Rumors: Cruz Wants To Put Pressure On Nicks To Re-Sign After Signing His 6-Year, $46 Million Contract

After assuring his long term future with the New York Giants yesterday, wide receiver Victor Cruz will now shift his attention to make sure that teammate Hakeem Nicks, the other starting receiver, re-signs with the team as well.

"Oh, yeah, I'm definitely going to put the pressure on him to come back and see if he wants to play with me for the long haul,'' Cruz said of Nicks after signing a five-year extension. "We'll see how it goes, but Hakeem's his own man, he's going to make his own decision. But I'm definitely going to see if I can get him to stay with me for a couple years.''

Nicks is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is set to make $2.7 million in 2013. The Giants have longed envision a Nicks-Cruz tandem to be paired with quarterback Eli Manning for many years to come and may place the franchise tag on him for the 2014 season.

"I'm concerned as a teammate and a friend because I want to see Hakeem around in Giants blue for as long as we're together in the National Football League,'' Cruz said. "There's ways to create space, there's ways to do things. That's a road the Giants have to cross when they get there.''

As for Cruz, he'll earn $43 million on a five-year extension that will be added to his current one-year, $2.879 million restricted tender. That would make the entire deal a six-year, $45.879 million contract.
