New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has gotten himself into the news for a wide variety of reasons over the years, including a foot fetish video, a Mark Sanchez tattoo and for wanting a "bleeping" snack, and now he has done it again, this time for participating in the world famous Running of the Bulls in Spain.
Ryan was among thousands that participated in the event both days during the nine-day festival and his appearance was confirmed by the team. Deadspin posted a video of Ryan running with the bulls and escaping unharmed and Ben Patton, who was a contestant on "Ready For Love" tweeted a picture with the coach in Pamplona. The race lasts two minutes and thousands usually participate each year. Other coaches to have competed in the event in the past included Eagles coach Chip Kelly, who did it last year while with Oregon.
Ryan was seen in photos during the event and looked absolutely scared for his life, but on the bright side, he did make it over the wall and out of harm's way. He can now say he took part in one of the most stories and psychotic traditions of all-time. The Jets had an up and down season last year and perhaps Ryan was looking for a way to motivate himself and his players heading into 2013.
The Jets went 6-10 last season and are likely going with Ryan's tattoo in Mark Sanchez at quarterback with rookie Geno Smith nipping at his heels. The team will open up with a home game against the Buccaneers that will mark the return of cornerback Darrelle Revis before heading to New England for a division matchup. Quiet way to start the season.
