Bryce Harper is one of the top young stars in all of baseball and he will show that off in the Home Run Derby on Monday night and when he tees off at Citi Field, he will have a familiar face throwing the pitches to him in his father Ron Harper.
Harper will be taking a cue from Robinson Cano, who had his father throw for him last year in the contest. Harper's father said that he is thrilled to be involved in the contest and that he has thrown millions of pitches to him in the past while grown up. Harper's brother Bryan Harper is a relief pitcher in the Nationals farm system and to practice, Ron threw batting practice with his son's Single-A team.
Harper is on the NL team with Michael Cuddyer of the Colorado Rockies, Pedro Alvarez of the Pittsburgh Pirates and team captain David Wright of the New York Mets. Harper has 13 home runs and 29 RBIs and is hitting .264 this season.
